Notification of Construction – State Route 61 in Hamburg

Please accept this correspondence as notification that construction will begin Monday, March 18, 2024 on State Route 61 in the Hamburg area. The project has an anticipated completion date of November 29, 2027 and will be constructed with multiple stages.

Stage 1 will begin Monday, March 18, 2024 and is expected to be completed on or about May 16, 2024. The southbound right lane and shoulder of Route 61 will be closed to traffic from the bridge over the Schuylkill River (near the Route 61/Route 78 interchange) south to the Route 61/4th Street intersection. Vehicular traffic will be in the left lane.

Animal Control for 2024

Attention Tilden Township residents.

As of 12/31/2023, the contract that the township had with the Berks County Animal Rescue League (ARL) has ended.

Due to the higher fees that ARL wanted for a contract renewal, the township has decided to go with another agency for animal control.

As of 01/01/2024, Tilden Township now has an animal control contract with Safety Net Sanctuary, 187 Houck Road, Fleetwood, PA 19522 (Ruscombmanor Township).

Dogs:

For found dogs in Tilden Township, a resident may coordinate with the Tilden Township Police Department, (610) 562-9001 or can call Safety Net Sanctuary directly at (610) 944-8099 to make arrangements.

Cats:

For found cats in Tilden Township, a resident may coordinate directly with Safety Net Sanctuary at (610) 944-8099. Only cats that have a collar (showing domestication) or a microchip will be accepted. The Tilden Township Police Department does have a microchip scanner.

All other domesticated animals:

For advice on a situation with any other type of domesticated animal, please feel free to contact Safety Net Sanctuary at (610) 944-8099.

Office closed for Independence Day

In observance of Independence Day, the Tilden Township municipal office will be closed on Monday, July 3rd and Tuesday, July 4th, 2023.

Berks County Burn Ban Rescinded

Effective this 04/25/2023, the Berks County Board of Commissioners has rescinded the countywide burn ban. This action was taken under recommendation of the PA DCNR District Forester who advised that it was his opinion that conditions in the last few days and those forecast over the next week support that action.

All parties involved ask that residents and businesses that are in the practice of outdoor burning continue to practice caution to ensure fires are manageable and contained.

County wide burn ban

Update April 21st for Berks County Resolution 156-2023.

The county has amended Resolution 151-2023 to state that the burn ban shall not apply to open outdoor burning that is directly related to normal agricultural operations within Berks County.

The term “normal agricultural operation” The term “normal agricultural operation” shall have the definition as provided within
Section 952 of Pennsylvania’s “Right-To-Farm” Law (Act 133 of 1982), specifically:

The activities, practices, equipment and procedures that farmers adopt, use or engage in the production and preparation for market of poultry, livestock and their products and in the production, harvesting and preparation for market or use of agricultural, agronomic, horticultural, silvicultural and aquacultural crops and commodities and is:

a. not less than ten contiguous acres in area; or
b. less than ten contiguous acres in area but has an anticipated yearly gross income of at least $10,000.

The term includes new activities, practices, equipment and procedures consistent with technological development within the agricultural industry. See3 P.S. § 952.

All other provisions of Resolution 151-2023 shall remain unchanged and in full force and effect as set forth therein.

Attention. The Berks County Commissioners have issued a county-wide ban on outdoor burning due to dry conditions.

The burn ban will begin Sunday, April 16, at 6 p.m.

The commissioners have ordered that all open outdoor burning be banned for a period of no more than 30 days.

The use of propane or gas stoves, charcoal briquette grills and the use of tobacco in any form is not affected by this ban.

An additional announcement will be made when the ban is lifted.

Litter pickup event Wed 4/12

On Wednesday, April 12th from 10am-12pm, there will be a volunteer litter pick up crew working on Pine Road, Laurel Avenue, and Holly Road. More volunteers are needed for this community litter pick up, as we only have a small group at this time. All volunteers should meet at the Township Building at 9:45am.

Industrial Drive road closure 03/27/2023

This is a community notification that construction crews will be closing Industrial Drive in Tilden Township under the Interstate 78 bridge tonight Monday March 27th at 7pm for the concrete bridge demolition. It will be re-opened before 5am on Tuesday, March 28th.

There will be flaggers closing the roadways at the intersection with West State Street, at the Microtel and at the Cracker Barrel.

This is a community notification that construction crews will be closing Industrial Drive under the Interstate 78 bridge on Sunday March 26th at 7pm for the concrete bridge demolition. It will be re-opened before 5am on Monday, March 27th.

There will be flaggers closing the roadways at the intersection with West State Street, at the Microtel and at the Cracker Barrel.

Message boards are displaying this information along Industrial Drive this week.

New burning ordinance

Effective March 13, 2023, the burning of yard waste will be prohibited in the R-3 and R-4 zoning districts.

The burning of rubbish is prohibited throughout the township.

Other general restrictions apply. There are exceptions for cooking and the burning of wood for limited recreational/religious/ceremonial uses.

These prohibitions are authorized by ordinance number 250 of 2023 that was passed on March 8th. This ordinance consolidates older ordinances into one ordinance and is now the burning ordinance for the township.
